Nucleic Acids
These are cellular components or building blocks. Cells (and viruses) used these molecules to transmit information.
Nucleic acids are long chains (DNA or RNA strands) store and carry the information to make a new cell (or virus).
Nucleic acids are composed of nucleotides, like the adenine shown above. Nucleotides are able to store and transfer energy to other cellular building blocks or alter their structure. These nucleotides (ATP or GTP) function as the “energy currency” of the cell.
